Two students fall from balcony in Westwood, sustain serious injuries
FALL: Case now under jurisdiction of LAPD homicide unit

Two students were seriously injured after falling four stories from the balcony of a Westwood apartment building on Aug. 16.
Joshua Davis, a UCLA student, remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at UCLA Medical Center, after sustaining chest and pelvic fractures, according to hospital spokesperson Roxanne Moster.
Heather Strobel, a student at San Diego State University, underwent abdominal surgery last Monday.
She was moved out of intensive care late in the week and is currently in fair condition. There are no plans for the release of either student, said hospital spokesperson Warren Robak.
The fall, which occurred at 527 Midvale Ave. in Westwood, is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department's homicide unit.
Detective Francene Mounger said that the fall is being investigated as an "accident," adding that it falls under the jurisdiction of the homicide unit even though foul play is not suspected.
The police do not yet know the cause of the fall, Mounger said.
Nancy Greenstein, university police director of community service, said that alcohol may have been a factor, but added that that is merely speculation at this point.
