Men's Team Contributors

CEDRIC BOZEMAN

Freshman, G, 6-6 Bozeman has great quickness for his size, and his height gives him an advantage over defenders, allowing him to see over the press. It probably won’t be until mid- to late-conference season that Bozeman finds his rhythm on the floor as he is out 4-6 weeks with a knee injury.

BILLY KNIGHT

Fifth-year senior, G, 6-6 Knight’s job is to shoot the ball. Having worked his way into the starting lineup last season, Knight brings both a strong work ethic and four years of UCLA basketball experience to the floor along with his consistent three-point shot from the corner.

RICO HINES

Fifth-year senior, G/F, 6-5 Hines is a team leader. His role is an offensive contributor in terms of helping the flow of and execution of plays. The Bruins look to Hines’ four previous years of experience as a guide as the team establishes a consistent rhythm.

JASON KAPONO

Junior, G/F, 6-8 Kapono is the Bruins’ most dominant shooter, leading the team in scoring his last two years. The Bruins will look to Kapono for leadership and the bulk of the scoring responsibility. Kapono, who focused on his ball-handling over the summer, will see time at the point guard position while Bozeman recovers.

DIJON THOMPSON

Freshman, G/F, 6-7 Thompson is a versatile player who the Bruins will fill in as point guard as well. Averaging 20 minutes, Thompson has been a contributor in every game thus far. He has a good stroke from the perimeter and good floor vision.

MATT BARNES

Senior, F, 6-7 Barnes was a crucial component to the Bruin defensive machine in 2000-01, and though he has been incorporating looks from the perimeter into the offense, it is imperative for Bruin success that Barnes stay tough down low.

ANDRE PATTERSON

Freshman, F, 6-7 Patterson is an athletic player capable of producing highlight-reel material. Though raw on fundamentals, Patterson brings enthusiasm into the lineup. The Bruins can count on his short-range shot as well as strong rebounding.

T.J. CUMMINGS

Sophomore, F, 6-9 Cummings has expanded his game since last season and contributes as a shooter as well as a presence in the post. In getting more minutes this season, Cummings has been able to increase his confidence and utilize his versatile abilities.

DAN GADZURIC

Senior, C, 6-11 When Gadzuric is on, he’s virtually unstoppable, but it has taken him time this season to find his niche. Finishing with a 54-percent field-goal average last season, Gadzuric has proven that he is can be a consistent offensive contributor, but he has been hampered by ankle injuries in the early 2001-02 season.
