USAC should apologize for forged e-mails
The recent discovery of forged e-mails sent from USAC General Representative Sanobar Sajan’s office demonstrates the good supervision of funding applications by the USAC Finance Committee.
But it also shows a disturbing lack of consideration for the USAC funding allocation process – something the offices of elected student leaders should be striving to enforce, not exploit.
Students need not be too worried – your fee dollars will not be used for personal gain by Sajan’s office because of good accounting oversight.
Because of accounting regulations, no one can be paid using USAC money without a contract. So the likelihood that the people in Sajan’s office who forged these e-mails could use the money for anything other than what they had requested is slim at most.
People in her office probably wanted to organize a speaker series for next quarter but did not have time to arrange speakers in time to meet the funding application due date.
The culprits were probably hoping they could use the money later on to pay the real speakers. The bottom line here is that the student body at least deserves an apology.
