Comic-Con 2007

“Shoot ’Em Up”

Posted July 30, 2007

The air conditioning may have been on full blast in Hall H on Friday afternoon, but you couldn’t tell once Clive Owen walked onstage. The smoldering and talented actor was in San Diego to introduce audiences to “Shoot ’Em Up.” From New Line Cinema, the film is an unapologetically violent film following a ruthless hit man (Paul Giamatti) and a stranger who takes it upon himself to rescue the hit man’s various soon-to-be victims (Owen).

Both clips shown at the Con were full of blood and gore, but Owen cited the script was one of the “wildest” and most “hilariously funny things I’ve ever read.”

Written and directed by newbie Michael Davis, Owen even labeled the film as “John Woo’s wet dream” when explaining the director’s ambitious and detailed vision for the film. Clips of Davis’ original sketches used to pitch the film were shown at the panel, and these original drawings closely resembled the scenes that ended up in the film.
