Bruin wide receiver Jeremy McGee is considering transferring from UCLA.

McGee, whose mother died last season, reportedly wants to transfer to a school close to his New Orleans home to be with his father Alcie McGee.

The sophomore missed part of this year’s spring football camp because of a hamstring injury, and also returned home for a short time because of personal reasons.

McGee was the Bruins’ primary kick returner last season, compiling a total of total of 204 return yards, and had standout outputs against Washington and Notre Dame.

He was a three-star recruit at McKinley High School in Louisiana and was displaced from his home in New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina. He moved to Baton Rouge during his final year of high school before coming to UCLA.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Two major Bruin recruits from Southern California, Larry Drew Jr. and Brandon Jennings, made their verbal commitments elsewhere on Wednesday.

Drew, who was offered a scholarship from UCLA, chose North Carolina over the Bruins. The point guard is a local player from Taft High School in Woodland Hills and is the son of former NBA player Larry Drew. However, Drew was not likely to choose the Bruins after UCLA received verbal commitments from fellow guards Jerime Anderson and Malcolm Lee for the class of 2008.

The 6-foot-2-inch point guard Jennings committed to the Arizona Wildcats after reneging an earlier verbal commitment to USC last November. Originally from Compton, Jennings transferred to Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va. last season.

BASEBALL GETS PAC-10 HONORS: The All-Pac-10 team was announced yesterday, and a total of five Bruins received honors, the most named to the team since 2000. This year’s team includes freshman Gabe Cohen, who was also named Pac-10 Co-Newcomer of the Year (along with USC’s Grant Green) after an outstanding season leading the Bruins in batting average (.360) and driving in 32 RBIs and nine home runs.

Joining Cohen on the team is Bruin ace Tyson Brummett, who currently has a 9-5 record, 3.54 ERA, 101 strikeouts, and most impressively, has pitched seven complete games.

After being named an All-Pac-10 honorable mention last season, sophomore Brandon Crawford broke through to the All-Pac-10 team this year after starting all 53 games and hitting .338 with 50 RBIs, six home runs and a team-leading 73 hits.

Finally, fellow sophomores Jermaine Curtis and Cody Decker also received the conference honor. Curtis is currently hitting .331 with 30 RBIs and a .420 on-base percentage, while Decker leads the Bruins with 13 home runs, 52 RBIs and a .634 slugging percentage. Like Crawford, Curtis received honorable mention last season, and after his return to the lineup on March 30, the Bruins won 13 of their next 15 games.

This is the first time receiving All-Pac-10 team honors for all five athletes. Junior Alden Carrithers and sophomores Ryan Babineau and Tim Murphy received honorable mentions.

LEGASPI INVITED TO CAMP: Softball senior Jodie Legaspi was invited, along with five Bruin alumnae, to attend the 2007 USA Softball Women’s National Team selection camp, which will take place in Chula Vista from June 11-15.

The camp will be used to select the national team that will play in this summer’s KFC World Cup of Softball, the Pan American Games, and the Canada Cup. USA softball is currently the 2006 World Cup defending champion and six-time consecutive winner of the Pan American Games. Legaspi finished her final season at UCLA with a .348 batting average and 46 RBIs and was named first team All-Pac-10.
