If only goals could roll over from game to game.

The UCLA women’s soccer team sent eight balls into the back of the net on Friday against Colorado only to squeeze out a 1-0 OT win against Utah on Sunday.

In their 8-0 win against the Buffaloes (4-12-2, 1-8-1 Pac-12), the No. 2 Bruins (14-1-3, 7-1-2) scored the most goals in a single game since a 9-0 victory in 2005.

For the second consecutive week, senior forward Sydney Leroux earned a hat trick by halftime, scoring three goals in the first 30 minutes of play.

“Offensively, I feel very good,” Leroux said. “I have to give credit to my teammates because they have been giving me some great service and I really just have to put the ball away.

“Our final pass is definitely better and that is where I am getting my goals and creating more chances.”

After struggling to capitalize on offensive opportunities for much of the season, UCLA seemed to have found its scoring mojo on Friday, only to lose some of it again while playing the Utes.

“It was just about putting our chances away,” coach B.J. Snow said. “The piece missing in the first half, especially today, was that final pass. We were a little bit hesitant. … We just had to take care of the details of the game a little more efficiently.”

But it wasn’t a lack of trying that prevented the Bruins from scoring Sunday. Against Utah, UCLA launched 21 shots and actually found the back of the net three times during regulation play, only to have all three goals recalled because of offsides.

“I think that it is a different game if we put a couple of our chances away in the first half,” said Snow. “If we had been able to do the same today (Utah) would not have been able to sit deep, they would have (been) forced to come out of their shell. It would have opened the game up a little bit.”

Leroux gave UCLA the win with a goal in the 98th minute, receiving a pass from freshman midfielder Sarah Killion and sending a low ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.

“Today we came out and we weren’t able to get those initial goals. We got a little frustrated but we made sure to keep our cool and it paid off by the end of the game,” said Killion, who was credited with the assist on Leroux’s game winner.

The golden goal marks the first time that the Bruins have won a game in overtime despite having played close to 70 extra minutes this season.

“The biggest thing is that it was a giant road trip with two plane rides and we were gone for a long time, and we got the victories out of it,” Snow said. “If you had told me that the final score on the weekend was 9-0, I could not ask for more.”

Luckily for the team, the tiring Colorado-Utah route will be the Bruins’ last road trip for a while. UCLA concludes conference play next Friday at home against USC before gearing up for the NCAA tournament.
