Students will not be seeing too many UCLA women’s soccer players around campus during the next few weeks.

Nine current Bruins and two former ones have been called up for national team training.

Former UCLA forward Lauren Cheney, who scored against France in the semifinal match of the 2011 Women’s World Cup, and senior forward Sydney Leroux are all practicing with the full U.S. national team under head coach Pia Sundhage.

The nine-day training camp runs from Jan. 7-15 and is taking place at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

The U.S. national team is preparing for the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, held in Vancouver from Jan. 19-29.

A starter during all four years, Leroux led the team in goals scored with 16 and also tallied three assists this season.

Sophomore midfielder Chelsea Stewart and freshman midfielder Rosie White have also been called up to their respective full national teams.

Stewart is attending the Canadian national camp and White will train with the New Zealand national team in February.

Six other current UCLA members and former Bruin All-American defender Lauren Barnes have been invited to train with their respective age groups.

Junior midfielder Zakiya Bywaters, sophomore midfielder Jenna Richmond and Barnes will head to Florida to practice with the U-23 U.S. national team from Jan. 15-22.

The other UCLA players called up for national team training are staying more local.

Freshman defender Abby Dahlkemper, freshman midfielder Samantha Mewis and freshman midfielder Sarah Killion are currently participating in the U-20 national camp in Chula Vista.

The U-20 team is training to qualify for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Dahlkemper, Mewis and Killion have big shoes to fill on the U-20 team.

Leroux is currently the most-capped U.S. player at the U-20 level. She scored 30 goals for the U.S. U-20 national team and also led it to a World Cup victory over Chile in 2008.

Freshman goalkeeper Kateyln Rowland is also currently in Chula Vista to train with the U-18 U.S. national team.
