University police are searching for a man who alledgedly sexually assaulted a UCLA student early Friday morning near Saxon Suites.
The student was climbing to the top of the Saxon Steps leading from Gayley Avenue around 2:20 a.m. when a man called out to her, according to a police statement released Friday. The two had a brief conversation, said Nancy Greenstein, a UCPD spokeswoman.
The man then sexually assaulted the student, the report stated.
The student got away from the man and contacted university police, Greenstein said. By the time police arrived, the man had fled the scene, she said.
The man is described in the report as white, about 21 years old, 6 feet, 150 pounds, with short, brown hair and blue eyes.
He was wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, the report stated.
It is not yet known whether the victim knew her attacker and whether he was a fellow student, Greenstein said.
Police recommend students be aware of their surroundings and not walk alone at night. Students should arrange walking groups or alternate transportation if planning on walking after 1 a.m.
University police are currently investigating the assault. Anyone with information regarding the assault should contact UCPD at 310-825-1491.
