Freshman quarterback Brett Hundley will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a knee injury, UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said at Pac-12 Media Day on Tuesday.
Neuheisel said that Hundley tore the meniscus in his right knee playing basketball. The Bruins’ fall practice begins August 8. A four-week recovery period would have Hundley back at practice shortly before UCLA’s season opener at Houston on September 3.
Neuheisel added that redshirt junior Kevin Prince is expected to take the first-team snaps at quarterback when camp opens. Prince is recovering from microfracture knee surgery that limited him to non-contact 7-on-7 drills during spring practice.
An open competition for the starting quarterback spot will include junior Richard Brehaut – who was the starter during the spring – junior Darius Bell and redshirt junior Nick Crissman.
