The UCLA women’s water polo team had three players named to All-America teams, voted on by the American Water Polo Coaches Association. Sophomore center forward Kristina Kunkel was named as a first-team All-American, while freshman goalkeeper Emily Feher and sophomore center defender Lauren Heineck made the third team. Kunkel led the Bruins with 44 goals, while Heineck finished the 2004 season with 14 goals and 21 steals. Feher finished with 169 saves and a goals-against average of 4.66

WOMEN’S TENNIS: UCLA’s Daniela Bercek and Lauren Fisher advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Tournament with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Indiana’s Linda Tran and Sarah Batty. The pair will face Vanderbilt’s No. 7 Kelly Schmandt and Aleke Tsoubanos. Fisher, a redshirt junior, reached the finals two years ago with Megan Bradley, who now plays for Miami.

MEN’S TENNIS: The doubles team of Kris Kwinta and Alberto Francis advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA tournament Thursday with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Antonio Ruiz and Jose Zarhi of Texas. Kwinta and Francis face Harvard’s Jonathan Chu and David Lingman today at 10 a.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center at the University of Tulsa.

Senior Tobias Clemens was named to the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Men’s At-Large Team. His selection to the first team makes him eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. Clemens, a business-economics major, has a 3.32 GPA. He ended his UCLA tennis career Tuesday when the Bruins lost 4-0 to Baylor in the NCAA Championships.

WOMEN’S TRACK: Jeanette Bolden was named the the U.S. Track Coaches Association’s West Region Women’s Coach of the Year for the ninth time during her 11-year coaching career. Senior hurdler Sheena Johnson was named the West Region Women’s Athlete of the Year.

MEN’S TRACK: Art Venegas was named the U.S. Track Coaches Association’s West Region Men’s Coach of the Year. Senior thrower Dan Ames was the region’s Men’s Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year.
