A graduate student in biomedical engineering, Argus Sun ran for and was elected vice president of Academic Affairs during last year’s Graduate Student Association elections. Assistant News Editor JJ Yang sat down with Sun to talk about his motivation for running and what he hopes to accomplish this year.

Monica Sanchez was re-elected to her post last year as the Graduate Students Association vice president of external affairs. A former president who enjoyed working with external organizations, she promised to bring student voices ... Graduate Student Association presidential candidate Jamal Madni vowed to create a student government that understood the stressful schedules of its constituents and encouraged a multidisciplinary approach in graduate education. With hundreds of thousands of unregistered college students in the upcoming election, student government groups are mobilizing a nationwide registration campaign to reach the collegiate vote. The members of the slate GSA Commitment swept every office in the Graduate Students Association elections, the Elections Board announced Wednesday night. Myha Ngo, a candidate for next year’s Graduate Student Association, declared last week that she is withdrawing from the race for vice president of academic affairs due to academic time constraints. A major goal of the GSA this year has been to improve its self-started Sustainability Research Center and to continue the Leaders in Sustainability initiative, an interdisciplinary certificate-granting program that educates graduate students from various fields on issues of sustainability. With Graduate Students Association officer elections in just over a week, candidates are reaching out to the graduate student body through passing out fliers, social networking sites and by speaking to students in person.
