To celebrate the month-long Muslim holiday of Ramadan, Sahar Shafi, a UCLA School of Dentistry alum (foreground) prays at sunset before taking her first sip of water and first bite of food since before sunrise. During this holiday, observers fast until sunset, at which time they gather to break their fast in a traditional meal called iftar. The Muslim Student Association is inviting all students to fast on Tuesday for their Fast-a-thon, and in the evening participants will gather to eat and hear speakers.
