No. 1 UCLA beach volleyball knocked off No. 3 USC and No. 5 LMU on Thursday afternoon in its final home match of the regular season.

The Pediatric AIDS Coalition hosted its annual 19-hour Dance Marathon fundraiser in Pauley Pavilion, its first full-scale version of the event since 2019. The event went from noon Saturday to 7 a.m.

After failing to make the NCAA tournament last year, the Bruins redeemed themselves with back-to-back wins against Sacramento State and Oklahoma. With the wins, UCLA will go dancing into the Sweet 16 once again.

The Bruins traveled to Las Vegas to officially kick off their season by competing against three of the top five teams in the country, and opened their season with their best season-opening score in 18 years.

The Bruins trounced the Terrapins on Wednesday night in a contest that saw UCLA lead by as much as 38. The win was the program’s most resounding victory over a ranked opponent since the 2009-2010 season.

The No. 2 seeded Bruins battled their way through a three-day Pac-12 tournament championship on their home courts at Mapes Beach. The blue and gold would sweep their first two opponents, No. 7 seed Washington and No. 3 seed Arizona, to land a spot in the championship against crosstown rivals and No. 1 seed USC after beating the Trojans earlier in the winner’s bracket final. UCLA’s championship dreams fell on the shoulders of freshmen Rileigh Powers and Jaden Whitmarsh. The duo pulled through to give the Bruins the 3-2 edge over the Trojans.
