The freshmen are doing more than just alright for the Bruins this season.
On opening day, UCLA softball started four freshmen – the program’s most since 2004.

The Bruins are halfway through their Big Ten schedule.
And while No. 8 UCLA softball (36-5, 9-1 Big Ten) is still playing at full speed, it did take some time during its two-game sweep over No.
The Bruins earned their fourth conference win of the season and tacked on two more wins.
No. 4 UCLA women’s water polo (16-3, 4-0 MPSF) added three wins to its season record, starting with a win over No.
The exit out of the Pac-12 conference left the Bruins navigating unfamiliar waters.
While uncertainty could have held them back, the squad will find familiarity when it matters the most.
The Bruins stumbled at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational two weeks ago, with historic losses to No. 1 Stanford and No. 3 Hawaii.
But now with two more MPSF wins under their belt, last year’s reigning national champions appear to be back on track.

Two record-setting losses defined the last regular season tournament for the Bruins.
“Without a doubt, probably, in my time with the women’s team, one of the toughest weekends just from top to bottom,” said coach Adam Wright.
